Iran charges Hormuz fees by...?

World

Eventcmtla2b8c0k98mv01yc92fhii
Closes in

This market resolves to “Yes” if the Iranian government officially announces and begins collecting fees, tolls, charges, tariffs, or similar payments from commercial vessels which are mandatory for passage through or access to the Strait of Hormuz between market creation and the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market resolves to “No.” A qualifying fee must be an announced policy which applies generally to all commercial vessels, or a defined subcategory of commercial vessels (e.g., vessels flagged to the US and its allies). Isolated demanded charges will not qualify. A fee is mandatory if, in practice, affected commercial vessels cannot transit or access the Strait of Hormuz without paying it, regardless of whether Iran characterizes the payment as voluntary or a fee for services. Fees described as tolls, maritime fees, service charges, environmental fees, security fees, insurance charges, etc. will qualify provided they are recognized as mandatory for passage through or access to the Strait of Hormuz by a consensus of credible reporting (e.g., a mandatory insurance fee charged by the Iranian Persian Gulf Strait Authority would qualify). Both of the following are required to occur prior to the specified date, 11:59 PM ET to satisfy this market’s resolution criteria: 1) An official announcement from the Iranian government that such a fee is being, or will be, implemented. 2) A consensus of credible reporting that collection of the fee has begun. Fees charged by Oman, the United Arab Emirates, shipping insurers, private companies, or other non-Iranian entities do not qualify unless charged jointly with Iran, or if Iran directly receives the fee or controls the charging entity. Normal port fees, customs duties, sanctions-related costs, or shipping surcharges do not alone qualify. The resolution sources will be official announcements from the government of Iran and consensus of credible reporting.

So I take it the market won't open for November?

Down with uma rocks.

yen4u Oct 1

Both sides had merit, this really should've been clarified...

TronOG Oct 1

this idiot who proposed yes must be permanently banned from proposing a resolution

Bromley86 Oct 1

Not if you don't want to pay it there isn't.

NoSteinNoGate Sep 30

Nah, the reality is there is a mandatory fee system in place

Who had too much to drink and filed a resolution “yes”? And just Sep ? If they really intended to do this, they ought to have filed separate resolutions for Sep, Oct, Nov and De.

not sure this is a clean P2 yet rules need 2 things: official announcement from Iran that the fee is being / will be implemented + credible reporting that collection actually started Sep17 Reuters/Treasury is strong evidence but Treasury says Hormuz Safe received payments “since June”. this market opened Aug7 so that proves payments existed, but by itself doesnt prove qualifying collection started inside this market window also prong 1 is still questionable. the source people use is committee approval of an article in a draft bill. Tasnim on Sep27 says the committee only finished reviewing the bill and it still has to go through parliament. why does that count as an official govt announcement that the fee is being or will definitely be implemented? plus the Aug31 market had basically the same rules and resolved NO if anyone has a post-Aug7 source proving both official implementation announcement + actual mandatory collection after market open pls link it. thats the proof im missing maybe im missing something or reading the rules wrong, if so can someone explain where exactly?

EmeraldEdge Sep 29

Wayooo!!

NoSteinNoGate Sep 29

It literally does. The jumper has the option if the question just is if he can ride the fare without paying. Whats interesting here is whether passage is legal without paying a fee.

Hopping the barrier doesn't make the fare optional. An open gate that traffic uses every day does. The escort is that gate. The rules read: “A fee is mandatory if, in practice, affected commercial vessels cannot transit or access the Strait of Hormuz without paying it.” US-escorted ships transit and do not pay. Once again, simple as that.

NoSteinNoGate Sep 29

So because someone can jump over the trainstation barrier the train fee is not mandatory?

mr.fig Sep 29

i say boom boom boom everybody say wayo

KariSpice Sep 29

He really stirred things up in this market. Who pressed the button ))) What now? Should we expect a dispute, or how do you think things will unfold?

TronOG Sep 29

exactly, there is no official announcement from the government.

Mandatory means something that is not optional. If we get most (again, or even some) of the ships not paying it, and some paying, then by definition, it's not mandatory. And I have no idea what someone tried to resolve this on, but as long as ships are escorted by US instead of paying Iran, then this can not be resolved yes because Iran said some ships paid some fees.

NoSteinNoGate Sep 29

Pretty much every mandatory fee has people dodging it, that doesnt mean its not mandatory

0x6bAB66c4BB24c96Ed14dccA0f0979B38a6830FE5-1760703674960 Sep 29

How can someone propose yes? The rules state: "collecting fees, tolls, charges, tariffs, or similar payments from commercial vessels which are mandatory for passage". So Iran can claim to have collected whatever, but as long as most of the traffic (or even some) is travelling fee less, via US escort, then you can pass the strait withouth paying the fee. It's that simple.

TronOG Sep 29

wtf who proposed yes ???

Charges for services in Hormuz approved in Iranian parliament today according to official Government owned Mehr News Agency

hyper-liquid-xyz Aug 5

Bloomberg: New details on Hormuz deal between Iran & Oman, Iran is looking to charge fees between 5~7%, Oman 3% - that's an average of 5-10 million per hull of a ship!

alexludoman Jul 30

iran will just announce and it'll qualify, doesn't matter what trump thinks, doesn't matter if it works

hyper-liquid-xyz Jul 29

I am Pakistani ship. Iran gave me permission to go back and forth the strait 100 times this week! I accepted their toll and promised to support their propaganda!

tinytouns Jul 14

Iran will set up asap the fees before Trump. If Trump impose its fees, there will be no more place for iranian fees

theFuuuuuuuck Jul 14

you are on a platform powered by decentralized finance asserting a single entity could throttle the finances of an entire nation? How many ships are transiting? How many bitcoin transactions has anyone ever stopped?

kohalacoastgabe Jul 14

Keep buying Yes so the rest of us can buy No, lol. I hate when No, being the only possible outcome, is too expensive. Anyone living on our planet actually thinks Trump will let Iran charge a penny? He will get Congress to declare war--and they will--if Iran asserts tolls on 1/5 of oil. Per rules, Iran needs to physically charge and get paid, not just say they will....

Screech2026 Jul 13

Iran Foreign Minister....................POTUS is absolutely right. Whoever provides secure and safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for this service. Iran has always been the GUARDIAN of the Strait and will remain so FOREVER. 20% is of course too much. We will be fair

poopyass Jul 13

Normal port fees, customs duties, sanctions-related costs, or shipping surcharges do not alone qualify.

poopyass Jul 13

They need to start receiving payments for this market to resolve

hyper-liquid-xyz Jul 13

Truth social - The USA will be, from this point forward, known as THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS will receive tolls, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped (~35M/ship), for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World. President DONALD J. TRUMP 🤣🤣🤣

NoSteinNoGate Jul 7
